Rank Descriptions
Alpha 2, one of each gender
Alphas are the law within a pack. An alpha is expected to maintain a strict hierarchy. An alpha's duties range from organizing hunts with the Jager Fuhrer to greeting newcomers to the pack's "foreign policy."
Beta 2, either gender
The Beta's chief duty is to keep the peace within a pack. If a dispute arises, the Beta is expected to be the official moderator. A beta is expected to assist the alpha in all pack duties.
Gamma 1, either gender
Gammas are the foreign relations of the pack. Gammas monitor the other packs activity and are expected to know statistics of neighboring packs.
Altester (m), Altesterin (f) 1, either gender
Altesters are often times one of the most experienced wolves in the pack, though not necessarily an aged wolf. Altesters are usually a long-time member, and have many tales of how the pack came to be, and history of members, as well. These "elders" are fountains of advice and entertaining stories.
Lehrer (m), Leherin (f) 1, either gender
The Lehrer is the trainer of the pack, responsible for teaching Lehrlings their place in the pack and also teaching them a skill useful to the pack.
Jager Fuhrer (m), Jager Fuhrerin (f) 1, either gender
The Jager Fuhrer is the most skilled hunter of the pack. The Jager is the leader of both the Jagerchen and the Jager Fischer.
Jager (m), Jagerin (f) 2, either gender
The Jagers are the hunters beneath the Jager Fuhrer. Jager Fuhrers and Jagers are expected to work closely together.
Wahrer (m), Wahrerin (f) 1, either gender
This wolf is the head spaher. He or she is responsible for both border duties and the pack's safety. He or she is also somewhat of an "apprentice" to the gamma in that they assist the gammas sometimes in their duties.
Spaher (m), Spaherin (f) 2, either gender
Spahers are the pack's pair of scouting wolves. Spahers are expected to assist at the borders. Spahers are responsible for showing newcomers to the pack the "ropes" of the pack.
Graduiertier (m), Graduiertierin (f) 1, either gender
The graduierters are the "head lehrlings." They've already been trained by the Lehrer and are ready to move up into the upper ranks. The Graduierter may be responsible for assisting the Lehrer in training new Lehrlings.
Subordinate (m/f) 8, either gender
Subordinates are the general members of the pack, with no defined job.
Omega (m/f) 1, either gender
The omega wolf is the lowest ranking pack member. This rank is dealt out only as a punishment. Omegas must eat last at pack hunts, and are punished thoroughly if they are caught stealing before it is their turn.
Lehrling (m/f) 3, either gender
Lehrlings are the official apprentices of the pack, and this is offical "adolescent" rank. Those between 7 and 12 months train and work towards improving their skills so that they might move up in the ranks.
Puppy Ranks Erste (2), Zweite (1), Dritte, Vierte
The puppy ranks are the loosest hierarchy of the pack. Their ranking system is much like a miniature adult ranking order. None of the ranks hold any special function, and the primary purpose of such a system is to educate the puppies on what it will be like when they are adults.
Used as needed: Fünfte, Sechste, Siebte, Achte, Neunte, Zehnte
Co-Ranks
Baird 1-2, either gender
The baird is responsible for keeping pack traditions alive and well, and acts sort of as a storyteller for the pack. Often works closely with the aufpasser.
Apothecary 1-2, either gender
The Apothecary is responsible for knowing and memorizing healing techniques. An apothecary must be skilled in healing, and must prove this to the pack.
Aufpasser 1-2, usually female
The Aufpasser is the pack's puppysitter. An Aufpasser must, at all times, have good knowledge of where the puppies in a pack are. This wolf is expected to teach puppies skills they will need to know as adults.
